McAdoo Clan Genealogy Update

After much research I am reasonably certain that I have identified the parents of William McAdoo (my 2x great-grandfather). They are Alexander and Martha McAdoo (my 3x great-grandparents). Alexander was born in Ireland about 1783, and Martha was also born in Ireland about 1797. I am aware of at least two other children in addition to my 2x great-grandfather William, Daniel, born about 1824, and Alexander, born about 1840.

While I have no direct documentation linking William and Daniel to their parents, the 1860 U.S. Census provides some compelling evidence. At that time, Alexander and his family resided at 1403 Savery Street, Philadelphia. William and Daniel also lived on Savery Street with their families at numbers 1385 and 1398. The McAdoo clan is small; therefore the coincidence of three McAdoo families living so close together and not being related is quite remote.

Daniel and Sarah immigrated on 24 June 1845, William, sometime between 1848 and 1852. Alexander, Martha, and son Alexander were the last to arrive on 25 August 1852.

Alexander was a Venetian carpet maker by trade, and Martha was a pants maker. Daniel was a laborer, and his wife Sarah was a vest maker. Alexander, the son worked as a dyer. William was a laborer in 1860, and Sarah was a pants maker.
